Unconscious bias is a subconscious prejudice that refers to other people’s or groups’ skills and competences. Its effect is similar to glasses that distort our perception. Every human being has unconscious bias. It helps us to judge a situation quickly i.e. in order to recognize danger. However, we can also fall into a trap.
In companies, unconscious bias can have negative consequences. This is especially the case when decision-making concerns human resources: i.e. because during the application procedure, the choice does not fall on the best applicant for a Job or because performance and potential assessments are distorted, and thus HR ignores the best talents and does not promote them. Furthermore, in a company, a good working climate can suffer from unconscious bias, which negatively affects the employees’ motivation and therefore, the financial result.

Little theory and a lot of practice: Our workshops are fully tailored to your needs. We actively involve the participants to reach maximum interaction. Examples of possible Unconscious Bias workshops are awareness trainings with a focus on the HR process (e.g. recruitment, assessments, promotions) or targeted workshops for Unconscious Bias in the recruitment, assessment or promotion process. We work with cases which are highly relevant for organisational practice. The solution development for these cases is afterwards reflected upon with the group to ensure the best possible transfer into organisational processes.

During Unconscious Bias Trainings, we present current practice-relevant research results paired with examples of unconscious prejudices in everyday business life. Interactive sequences with active parts and practice-oriented exercises for the participants consolidate what has been said and make it possible to reflect on the topic. For the trainings, we also offer the possibility to set different focal points (e.g. the entire HR process, recruitment, assessment, promotion as well as the consideration of different diversity dimensions such as: gender, age, nationality, religion, ethnicity, disability, work-life balance, full-time/part-time, etc.)
